Cashdown Vs. Touchdown
So, let’s pretend Steve Bisciotti, owner of the Baltimore Ravens AND the All Roads group of companies has to make a choice between the two; Remain owner of a NFL team or an automotive retail powerhouse. Which does he choose? Let’s break it down.
First, let’s take a look at workplace healthiness
While it is hard to get stats on NFL injuries we do know that in 2020 there were 2,113 football injuries in a league with 32 teams, and 46 active players or a total of 1,472 active players on any given weekend. So essentially your entire workforce gets hurt going to work. To own this business you have to get really good having a somber face and saying, "How are you feeling today?"
Now, Revenue (what really matters)
Or does it? The Dallas Cowboys generated more than $1B in revenue but the league average is just over $500,000,000 according to Statista. The Ravens are an average team. The average dealership location does $74 million in annual revenues. All Roads has 50 locations and could be generating around $3 Billion in revenue it is a private company, so that is speculation. But still, do the math and think of the Debt to Revenue ratio of most NFL teams.
How about Wage Negotiations?
The average football player makes an annual wage of $2.8 million. The average annual wage of a Dealership personnel is closer to $200,000. In dealerships there are no salary caps, no hold outs for a better deal, no free agents; but it would be awesome if you could do trades for a person to be named later.
Here’s 3 more HUGE reasons to own a NFL team
The Draft; An endless supply of talent. This is a way better option of finding talent than Indeed and Applicant Tracking Technology that Dealerships use to manage their turnover.
The Parties. We saw Taylor Swift and the crew she brought to the games. I am sure the parties around an NFL team are always fun.
The Owners Suite. How amazing would it be to invite your friends, your customers, your prospects to your suite. Drink top shelf alcohol and eat catered crab cakes and watch your employees work their **sses off.
The Verdict
Although being the head honcho at All Roads certainly has its perks, at the end of the day, we are comparing apples to oranges, and given the choice, Steve Bisciotti is definitely choosing his Baltimore Ravens over All Roads every day and twice on Sunday.
Surprised?
