Recent impromptu “Car Meets” have been plaguing MD and DC in recent years, and things are coming to a head. Sunday one of these reckless gatherings resulted in the death of one man and hospitalization of another.

Prince George’s County police Chief Malik Aziz said in a news release. “These car meets are a true concern to law enforcement both in our region and across the country. When the department is made aware of specific, credible intelligence, the agency plans accordingly and allocates resources to either prevent or disperse the gathering. As is evident in this case, these gatherings can turn violent.”

A new law goes into effect June 1 cracking down on these meetups and increasing penalties for those involved.
